photographs.

If you have never been to the english countryside, I suggest you add it on your list of places to visit before you die. Here are a few highlights from my trip there in June to visit my mom's side of the family. Pictures from Honiton, Beer, Canterbury, Dover, SouthEnd, and Cambridge.

what would you wear...

...if you were going to the Queen's birthday?

I opted for a big flower headband because the English always have the loveliest hats and I had to make do with the closest thing I had in my suitcase. I also decided to wear floral because it reminds me of tea time!

What I'm Wearing:
Headband from ForLove 21
Sweater by Kersh
Tank from Aritzia
Skirt from H&M
Belt from Plum Clothing
Sandals from Aldo

Does anyone else have a crush on the ginger Prince? I would even forgive that his name is Harry ;) Now if only I could figure out how to get invited to other Royal events...

tempted to buy...

These adorable booties from FreePeople.com!

I tried a similar pair on at Aldo that weren't as cute and they ended up not looking very cute on my feet either! I'm weighing out the pros and cons of buying these online. As much as I'm addicted to shopping, I haven't done any online shopping except for some c.d.'s from amazon.com!!! Maybe I'm worried that once I start, I'll never go back and in turn, my bank account will permanently suffer! If I don't find a similar pair, I'll just have to suck it up and purchase these online :)

Day In The Life: Stylist

Typically people think that being a stylist is soooo super glamorous and they automatically think of Rachel Zoe and celebrities. In all reality, it's quite difficult to get a styling gig and many Fashion Stylists end up doing shoots that are far from glamorous.

I currently do styling for a local Vancouver clothing company. They have a vast target market, I'd say it's women ages 20-60. They pretty much just buy what sells and hope that it appeals to everyone.

I am responsible for taking these clothes and creating visually appealing outfits using clothing, accessories, etc. I then have to put them on the mannequin which requires patience and an abundance of pins, which can get extremely tedious! I have also done my own photo shoots with girls from the company, which was super fun! I wish I had taken more photography classes and could do more shoots just for fun. I absolutely love capturing the beauty of someone in a photograph!

My favorite part of the job is that I get to represent the company at any promotional tv appearances and any professional photo shoots. It is so fun to put together outfits to go on real models rather than mannie. Whenever I have to go to anything media related I feel like Lauren Conrad, but way cooler! I must say that the Fashion Industry in Vancouver is rapidly growing and I can't wait to get involved in other aspects of the industry besides styling. I've been to a few buying appointments with the boss and the designer and I was in heaven. I have such an eye for buying, I can always predict what will be a hot seller, what is ill fitting, what women will dislike about the garment etc. It is definitely a dream of mine to one day be a buyer!

inspired by...the edge of love

Maybe it was being in England and visiting Dover Castle. Perhaps it was looking at so many old photos of Nana playing at the seaside in the mid 1900's, but I am feeling especially inspired by British fashion in the 30's and 40's!

Hello my fellow fashionistas :)

Since I already love blogging and am obviously obsessed with fashion (but who isn't these days?) I figured why not start my own fashion blog?!

I am a firm believer that you don't need to be a size 2 in order to be stylish. The media has made us idolize those with stick figures and left us wondering why we've been cursed with runner's thighs! Yes, I have curves but instead of comparing myself to others and wishing I had her legs and that girls flat stomach, I embrace my shape because chances are someone else is looking at me and thinking the exact same thing.
As soon as I realized this, I gained confidence and a contagious positive attitude. I've spent the last 5 years trying to convince women to love who they are and to step outside of their comfort zone to realize what makes them feel fabulous. Working in retail has made me discover that far too many women out there have a negative self image and in turn, have lost a little bit of who they are. There have been women who refuse to buy something because it is a size up from what they normally wear. I have had women yell at me because they are irate they have to go into "double digit sizes". Here is a little piece of information for women out there: different brands and styles have different fits...do not be alarmed if you have to go up a size! We are all too fixated on size, weight, eating, exercising, image, food, lack of food, etc. and I hear about it all day long from my girlfriends. Next time you're shopping, I suggest you try something on that you love but would never normally wear because it intimidates you. Chances are you will look super sexified and if not, at least you can have a laugh about it!
